John always loved sailing and from an early age was involved with the Sea Scouts at Bedford.  His love of the water carried on till he passed with a much-awaited Greek sailing holiday planned which, unfortunately, he never got to go on.

John always respected the water and the sea and had much admiration for the brave members of the RNLI who volunteer their time and risk their lives to save others both at sea and inland waterways.
